PeaceHealth Southwests Trauma Center is a Washington state verified Level II trauma center. Verified trauma centers must meet essential criteria that ensure trauma care capabilities and institutional performance, as defined by the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma. The Smith Level I Shock Trauma Center at Eskenazi Health provides the most extensive range and quality of trauma care in the entire state, serving as the first adult Level I trauma center in Indiana. Eskenazi Health is equipped to handle the most severe emergencies, including those resulting from falls, motor vehicle accidents, gunshot wounds, assaults and burns. Their actions are coordinated by a team leader. In a hospital setting, trauma refers to serious injury or condition, sometimes life-threatening and often complex. The Trauma team is a multidisciplinary group of individuals drawn from the specialties of emergency medicine, intensive care, surgery, nursing, allied health and support staff, who work together as a team to assess and manage the trauma patient.
